R.E.M.'s 'Sun' Rising In Europe
R.E.M. has confirmed a slate of European tour dates for early next year in support of its upcoming Warner Bros. album, "Around the Sun," due Oct. 5. The European dates kick off Jan. 7 in Lisbon, Portugal, and encompass 16 shows through a Feb. 11 engagement in Vienna. As previously reported, they will be preceded by a 29-date North American trek that will find the band playing intimate theaters as well as arenas.
R.E.M. is currently in Europe on a short promotional tour of radio and television outlets, with stops planned for England, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Germany and Sweden. Starting Oct. 1, the band will also take part in the Vote for Change tour of U.S. swing states with Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Dixie Chicks and Dave Matthews Band.
The new album's first single, "Leaving New York," can be streamed via the band's official Web site and is for sale via a number of digital retailers.
