American Idol season 7 winner David Cook is giving fans a taste of his forthcoming album, Digital Vein, with the release of his new single, "Criminals."

Cook tells USA Today that the single is “a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, young love against the world” in the lyrical sense, with a guitar line that recalls “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers.

“Let’s break out of this prison cell/ create stories a world will tell  their children,” Cook sings as the song crescendos into the chorus.

David Cook Signs Publishing Deal With Warner/Chappell

As previously reported, Digital Vein will be released by the INgrooves Music Group on Sept. 18.

In March, Cook inked a deal with Warner/Chappell, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group. The co-publishing agreement, executed via the company's Nashville office, was announced on March 24 and extends worldwide. Other Idol alums on the Warner/Chappell roster include season 8 alum Felicia Barton. Also from that season is runner-up Adam Lambert, signed to WMG's Warner Bros. Records.

Cook and his band will live stream an exclusive performance of the album on Sept. 18. Tickets are available at concertwindow.com.
