Avicii's Remix of Faithless' 'Insomnia' is Online
The Swedish DJ accepted the challenge of reworking the track for the forthcoming remix album Faithless 2.0, which should land this September and will carry works reimagined by the likes of Tiesto, Eric Prydz, Rudimental, Flux Pavilion, Armin van Buuren and Booka Shade.
"Insomnia 2.0" is Tim Bergling’s EDM take on the British house veterans’ standout clubland tune which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The original, which peaked at No. 3 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart a year after its release, is a largely dark affair as Maxi Jazz delivers a monologue on his inability to get some shuteye. Its unforgettable keyboard riff provides shades of light.
Avicii premiered his remix on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show last Friday. Much of the feedback has been, well, harsh.
Under the headline “Avicii Ruins a Class Dance Anthem with Latest Remix, Your EDM dismisses the redux as being “not only unnecessary, but also poorly executed.” Harder Blogger Faster aggregated a bunch of posts, and noted, “Judging by these comments on Facebook it has back-fired quite spectacularly.”
Judge for yourself.
