Beyoncé Offered Role in NBC's 'The Wiz': Report
Beyoncé has reportedly been offered a role in NBC's upcoming production of The Wiz as Glinda the Good Witch.
Already Mary J. Blige and Queen Latifah are signed on to play the Wicked Witch of the West Evillene and the Wizard, respectively, so the production already has some star power. But Beyoncé's addition would be a huge add.
E! News first reported this, citing unnamed sources. Emmy-winning Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba is reportedly also being considered for the part.
The Wiz's original Broadway cast in 1975 featured Grammy-winning jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater as Glinda, while Lena Horne took the role in the 1978 film, which also starred Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.
The musical is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz with an entirely African-American cast. It features music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls and book by William F. Brown.
Billboard reached out to Beyoncé and NBC's reps for comment but had not heard back by publishing.
