Miguel Gives Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan Songwriting Credits on 'Leaves'

Miguel performs songs from his new album "Wildheart" at Hollywood And Highland Center on July 13, 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

It's been an odd few weeks for Miguel, whose Wildheart success tumbled into a wave of backlash for his, shall we say, overconfident claims of outshining fellow R&B singer/songwriter Frank Ocean. Now, the "Coffee" singer finds himself in a another, less awkward encounter with yet another performer, Smashing Pumpkin frontman Billy Corgan. Drawing what looks like an initially subconscious parallel between his "Leaves" and Smashing Pumpkins 1996 megahit "1979", Miguel decided to add Corgan to the song's credits.

It wasn't until recently that he realized there may have been some unintended sampling on his part. In a conversation with The Associated Press, Miguel said, "Kind of after we finished the song, it was like, 'You know what, this is reminiscent of this song,' so we made sure that they heard it and made sure that it was all good."

Some track list alterations and one riff recognition later, it seems like everything between the "Coffee" singer and Corgan is, in fact, all good. Compare the two songs for yourself below:
