The group premiered the cover during their opening set for Kelly Clarkson.

Pentatonix surprised fans with a cover of OMI’s “Cheerleader” during a recent tour stop at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ.

The Season 3 winners of The Sing Off -- currently on tour opening for Kelly Clarkson on her Piece By Piece tour -- unveiled the song at the July 14 concert. The group did the piece justice, with Mitch Grassi handling lead vocals under perfectly-blended harmonies, Kevin Olusola’s deft beat boxing, Avi Kaplan's supple bass and Kirstie Maldonado's complementary nuances. The lone horn in the original track was recreated vocally in a nice effect.

Prior to the song, Scott Hoying told the crowd that the song was “never released or performed before.”

“It’s something we randomly wanted to do tonight,” he said.

The Texas five-piece has also been joining Clarkson on stage nightly to perform the American Idol Season One winner’s “HeartBeat Song.”
