Spoon Wraps Fifth Album

Texas-based rock act Spoon has finished recording its fifth album. The as-yet-untitled, 11-track set is expected early next year via Merge, and will include a number of cuts premiered in live performances this year by frontman Britt Daniel, such as "The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine" and "I Summon You."

Demos for the latter cut as two versions of "Sister Jack" can be samples on the group's official Web site. Other songs earmarked for the album include "The Infinite Pet," "My Mathematical Mind," "The Beast and Dragon Adored" and "Merchants of Soul."

The set is the follow-up to 2002's "Kill the Moonlight," which debuted at No. 23 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 24 on the Heatseekers tally. It has sold 76,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Spoon is expected to tour extensively next year, but for now, the only related activity will come in the form of Daniel's Oct. 29 solo show at San Francisco's Cafe du Nord.

As previously reported, Daniel recently remixed the Interpol single "Slow Hands," released commercially last month in the U.K.
