Jimmy Fallon took a few minutes on Monday's Tonight Show to thank talk show veteran David Letterman for his years of service. Sharing anecdotes about his own visits to the Late Show and his journey to becoming a late night host, Fallon called out both Letterman's revolutionary comedy and the musical achievements of bandleader Paul Schaffer.

“Thirty-three years of innovation, fun, and just plain weirdness…but mostly fun," is how Fallon described Letterman's work prior to the show's last episode, which will air tomorrow (May 20). He also recalled Letterman's response to 9/11 -- in the immediate aftermath, Letterman said, "There is only one requirement for any of us: to be courageous. Because courage, as you know, defines all other human behavior."
