Sam Smith Cancels More Tour Dates, Seeks Treatment for Vocal Injury
He initially canceled several dates in Australia last week and confirmed that dates in the Philippines and Japan are also canceled. He confirmed the news on Instagram on May 4. The dates were scheduled for May 7 and May 8 in Japan and May 10 in the Philippines. He added that he will head to the states to seek treatment.
"Very upset about Japan and Manilla dates," he wrote. "I've just left Australia and I'm on my way to the states to see a specialist to see what to do from there... This is fucking horrid."
His next gig is slated for May 15 in Alabama at the Hangout Festival, followed by a performance in Las Vegas at the Rock in Rio event on May 16 before resuming his tour.
Last Friday (May 1), Smith took to Instagram to update his fans on his condition, noting that he hadn't "spoken a word in three days."
Just to let all my beautiful fans know, I'm ok. I am insanely relaxed and am somewhere in the middle of Australia with no phone, no laptop and I haven't spoken a word in three days. Trying my absolute best to be back on my feet and singing for next week. So amazing to have this time to turn off, but it does make me realise how much I love what I do, and how much I miss you all when I'm not on stage. I hope you are all happy and healthy wherever you are. I'm gonna go back to my black and white movies and pretend I'm Judy Garland for a few more days xx
