'Finding Neverland: The Album' to Feature Christina Aguilera, Ellie Goulding, J.Lo & More

Ellie Goulding, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez & Trey Songz and Zendaya are just five of the artists lending their voices to Finding Neverland: The Album, a companion project to Weinstein Live Entertainment’s Broadway musical Finding Neverland, which opened April 15. The artists join previously announced contributions from John Legend, Rita, Ora, Nick Jonas and the musical’s star Matthew Morrison. Kiesza’s newly recorded version of “Stronger” premiered Monday (May 4) via Entertainment Weekly.

The album will be released June 9 via Republic Records, with digital pre-orders starting May 12. All songs feature music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy; the album is executive produced by Harvey Weinstein, Victoria Parker and Dana Sano. The musical is based on the 2004 J.M. Barrie biopic of the same name (starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet), adapted from Allan Knee’s 1998 play The Man Who Was Peter Pan.

“It’s about getting a chance to see some of the biggest names of music stepping outside of their normal lane and what we’re used to hearing from them,” Tom McKay, Republic’s exec vp-West Coast and general manager, told Billboard in February at the time of the album’s announcement.  “In essence, fans of these artists will discover the story and the play in a way they wouldn't have otherwise, and on the flipside, fans of the play will discover some of these artists in a way they might not have in their daily lives.”

Finding Neverland: The Album is a fusion of pop and Broadway akin to Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida album in 1999, which spawned John’s hit duet “Written In The Stars” with LeAnn Rimes (a No. 29 peak on the Hot 100). That release featured fresh recordings of the musical’s songs by Janet Jackson, Spice Girls, Boyz II Men, Sting and James Taylor.
