Set for Dec. 19 at the beach town's relatively new bar/restaurant Harry's Roadhouse, the show is billed as Bruce Springsteen with Bobby Bandiera and Friends.
Ticket information has not yet been announced, although those who shop Asbury Park between Dec. 4 and Dec. 18 will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for tickets and a chance to meet Springsteen before the concert. Details can be found at the Merchants Guild of Asbury Park Web site and the city's official Web site.
In past years, Springsteen's Christmas Jam shows have featured backing from the Max Weinberg 7, and boasted appearances by the likes of Elvis Costello, Bruce Hornsby and Gary U.S. Bonds. The shows were held at the Asbury Park Convention Hall, which sits on the city's boardwalk, and benefited local charities.
It is unknown if Weinberg will be on hand this year, as he recently suffered a broken collarbone which kept him from appearing with his band on NBC's "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" for a few days. Weinberg reportedly was injured while playing football at the home of John Kerry after the Democratic candidate lost his bid for the U.S. presidency.
A member of Southside Johnny's Asbury Jukes, Bandiera has frequently appeared with Springsteen throughout the years. He has also recorded with Bon Jovi and Springsteen's wife/E Street Band singer/guitarist Patti Scialfa, and maintains his own band.
Last night (Dec. 2), Springsteen performed in Pittsburgh as part of the Flood Aid '04 concert with friend Joe Grushecky and others. According to fan site Backstreets.com, the Boss sat in for Grushecky's entire headlining set, joined New Jersey-based Exit 105 for a run through Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" and offered his own solo acoustic set consisting of "Land of Hope and Dreams," "If I Should Fall Behind" and "For You."
