Sheeran is clearly doing serious box-office business in this part of the world. He’s just wrapped up a sold-out run of 17 arena dates across Australasia, armed only with a loop pedal and acoustic guitar. Those shows shifted close to 190,000 tickets and made Sheeran the first solo artist to embark on an arena-scale tour of these shores without a band since the late John Denver did so in 1994.
Spotify Says Ed Sheeran Dominates the World's Sleep Playlists
Sheeran’s second tour of Australia and New Zealand this year (and his fifth visit in four years) will come at the back-end of a stretch of constant touring in support of his sophomore album X. X spent six weeks on top of the Australian albums chart and finished 2014 as the year’s best-selling set Down Under, ahead of albums by Taylor Swift (1989), the Frozen soundtrack, INXS (The Very Best) and Coldplay (Ghost Stories), according to trade body ARIA. Sheeran's live calendar includes three sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium this July.
