Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr & Yoko Ono Remember Cynthia Lennon
Cynthia Lennon -- ex-wife of late Beatles legend John and mother of Julian -- died Wednesday (April 1) after a brief battle with cancer. Cynthia and John were married from 1962 to 1968, at the very start of the Beatles' rise to mega-stardom.
The living members of the band -- Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr -- both paid tribute to Cynthia on Wednesday and shared their condolences for Julian.
"The news of Cynthia’s passing is very sad," McCartney wrote on his website. "She was a lovely lady who I’ve known since our early days together in Liverpool. She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all, but I will always have great memories of our times together."
Starr tweeted a message from him and his wife Barbara:
Yoko Ono -- who married John Lennon in 1969, the year after his divorce from Cynthia -- shared a lovely statement about Cynthia's "strong zest for life."
"I’m very saddened by Cynthia’s death," Ono wrote on ImaginePeace.com. "She was a great person and a wonderful mother to Julian. She had such a strong zest for life and I felt proud how we two women stood firm in the Beatles family. Please join me in sending love and support to Julian at this very sad time."
