Taylor Swift Donated $50k to NYC Public Schools From 'Welcome to New York' Sales
Haters can keep hating on Taylor Swift for repping her adopted new city so hard, but there's one thing they should be aware of: Swift is (probably) doing a lot more for New York City than they are.
Swift just donated $50,000 from the sales of her 1989 song "Welcome to New York" to the New York Department of Education.
"We're deeply appreciative of this kind gesture to donate her proceeds of the single 'Welcome to New York' to benefit NYC public schools," Devora Kaye, press secretary of the NY Department of Education, tells Billboard.
In case you're curious, $50k is actually more money than the starting salary for a New York public school teacher with a bachelor's degree. So seriously, major kudos to Swift.
