Ex-Silverchair Singer Daniel Johns Drops NSFW Video for 'Aerial Love': Watch

Daniel Johns has shared the "intense"-- and just a bit NSFW -- video for his first-ever solo track, "Aerial Love".

Directed by Lorin Askill (who has worked on clips for Flume and Chet Faker, Phoenix and edited Sia's "Chandelier") and filmed on the Stockton Dunes just outside of Johns' hometown of Newcastle, the clip follows the singer as he makes slow progress through a desert landscape. It's a place that ought to be the location for a Tatooine scene.

The floating cameras also capture the "aerial love" as a gathering of couples get busy in the sand.

Ex-Silverchair Frontman Daniel Johns Releases First Solo Song: Listen

Johns opened-up on the video shoot. "The dunes actually looked spectacular but it was all pretty intense. The whole idea was to capture big aerial perspectives by using drone cameras that can fly by remote control. The winds were too strong in the first 24 hours though so they couldn't film anything. We finally started shooting on the second day but it was still 35 degrees in the shade and there were lots of sandstorms. It was like we were filming one of those desert scenes from Star Wars! I felt like I needed a droid."

"Aerial Love" is the Australian artist's first solo track since his group Silverchair went on "indefinite hiatus" in May 2011. Before going their separate ways, the alternative-rock trio made history in their homeland. Each of the band's five albums peaked at No. 1 in Australia, and Silverchair won more ARIA Awards than any other artist in history (21). Daniel is the only person to win APRA's coveted songwriter of the year three times. Watch his new video below.

Johns' new song, created with producer Joel Little (Lorde, Broods) and premiered in late January, is a musical quantum leap from Silverchair's early-era grunge sound. "Aerial Love" this week opened at No. 50 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Apart from the "Impossible" collaboration with homegrown hip hop artist 360 from January 2014, it's Johns' first appearance in the ARIA top 50 since Silverchair's "If You Keep Losing Sleep" in October 2007.

Johns' debut solo EP release will arrive this March 13 through EMI Australia, and a full-length album will come later this year.
