People attend a candlelight vigil on December 21, 2014 on Myrtle Ave. and Tompkins Ave. in Brooklyn, after yesterday's slaying of two police officers there. Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, shot to death officers Wenjian Liu, 32, and Rafael Ramos, 40 - and then himself - as they sat in their squad car on the corner.

Before fatally shooting two policemen on Saturday (Dec. 20), Ismaaiyl Brinsley wrote about his intentions on Instagram. He posted a photo of a pistol along with the following caption: "I'm Putting Wings On Pigs Today. They Take 1 Of Ours…… Let's Take 2 of Theirs."

Brinsley also posted on Instagram earlier on Saturday after he shot his ex-girlfriend in Maryland. He quoted lyrics from a song by 50 Cent, writing, "Never Had A Hot Gun On Your Waist And Blood On Your Shoe.... N---a You Ain't Been Through What I Been Through You Not Like Me And I'm Not Like You." The line comes from "Green Lantern" off the 2002 mixtape No Mercy, No Fear.

Later, he posted on social media again, this time using Facebook: "I Always Wanted To Be Known For Doing Something Right.... But My Past Is Stalking Me And My Present Is Haunting Me." After murdering the officers, Brinsley ran to a subway station, where he killed himself.

50 Cent didn't comment on his lyrics being quoted by the killer, but he swiftly condemned the murders on Instagram, writing, "Randomly shooting police officers is not the answer." He also pointed to Gandhi's oft-quoted, "An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind."

Elsewhere in the hip-hop community, everyone from Chuck D to Talib Kweli to Azealia Banks to The Game decried the murders on social media.
