Stephen Colbert tries to sell REM's Michael Stipe at the Colbert Report yard sale on the second to last episode airing on Dec. 17, 2014.

After nine years on TV, Stephen Colbert is retiring his blustering conservative alter ego Stephen Colbert on Thursday night. So with just hours to go before the end, Colbert rounded up all the junk he's collected over the years on his show and pawned it off at a New York City yard sale.

The best deal at the sale was probably an iPad mini for $1, although the 25-cent special on former R.E.M. frontman wasn't bad either.

Yes, Colbert has had Michael Stipe sitting around on his shelf for years, just gathering dust. He finally set Stipe free to a new master for a reasonable price on Wednesday.

The best part of owning a Stipe is that they stay put. As Colbert scolded him, "That's you in the corner and me in the spotlight. Read your contract!" Watch the great segment below.
