Jennifer Lopez arrives for the 2014 LACMA Art + Film Gala honoring film director Quentin Tarantino and artist Barbara Kruger in Los Angeles on November 1, 2014.

David Letterman hosted Jennifer Lopez for a freewheeling visit on Wednesday night. In a chat that bounced from parenting to perfume to pop music, J.Lo also wound up talking about returning to American Idol and those reports about her doing a 72-show residency at Planet Hollywood's Axis Theater in Las Vegas, Britney-style.

"I love it, it's a great musical journey," Lopez said of the upcoming 14th season of Idol. "We get to talk about music and we get to hopefully find a new superstar, and that's always exciting,"

"See, I look at it just the opposite," Letterman said. "I feel we have too many superstars. I really think we do."

"I don't think we have enough!" J.Lo answered. "I think we need more." She and Dave agreed to disagree.

With the Vegas rumor, Lopez wasn't ready to say yay or nay. "Yeah, it's a good thing," J.Lo agreed about the prospect of doing a residency. "Cher did it, Celine did it. When I have something to announce I'll let you know first."

J.Lo was at the Late Show talking up her new book, True Love. But she also took a minute to share all of her official fragrances with David Letterman.
