Dolly Parton has learned that giving away hit songs to other artists is never an easy decision.

The country music legend was interviewed by Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl on HBO's Foo Fighters Sonic Highways on Friday (Oct. 31). She talked about getting her start in the Nashville music scene, which was surprisingly laid-back at the time.

Parton also talks about agonizing over whether to give her tunes to other artists to perform. She said that there was a fight over whether she should give one song to Emmylou Harris.

However, Parton has nothing but positive memories about Whitney Houston having turned her song "I Will Always Love You" into an international smash hit. "It's just the gift that keeps on giving," Parton said about the song.
