Billboard Touring Awards Finalists Announced

One Direction, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, the Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Paul McCartney and the teams behind them to be honored at awards gala.

Finalists for the 2014 Billboard Touring Awards, including One Direction, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire, Jason Aldean and Paul McCartney, will be announced today. Winners of the Awards, which wrap the 11th annual Billboard Touring Conference at the Roosevelt Hotel, will be honored on Nov. 20 at the Edison Ballroom in New York City.

The Touring Awards honors top achievers in the touring world each year in categories like Top Tour, Top Boxscore, Top Draw, Breakthrough, Top Package and Top Festival. The awards are largely based on Billboard’s Boxscore chart data, which tracks gate receipts for concerts, comedy shows and other live events, and real box office performance.

"The tours, artists, venues, events, executives and companies represented as finalists for the Billboard Touring Awards are pushing the boundaries of creativity to make live events a bigger draw than ever," says Ray Waddell, Billboard’s Executive Director of Content and Programming for Touring and Live Entertainment. "In this era of fragmented digital consumption, live performance remains paramount in building and sustaining an artist’s career."

Finalists in the Top Tour category, based on Boxscore gross, include the Eagles' History of The Eagles tour, One Direction’s Where We Are tour, and Justin Timberlake’s 20/20 Experience tour. One Direction and Justin Timberlake are also finalists in the Top Draw category, based on Boxscore attendance, along with Luke Bryan’s That’s My Kind of Night tour.

Top Boxscore finalists, which recognizes the highest-grossing single engagement by an artist, include Paul McCartney for his November shows at the Tokyo Dome, One Direction for the group’s May shows in Dublin, and the Rolling Stones, for their February-March Tokyo Dome engagement.

Finalists for the Breakthrough Award, which honors an artist in their first decade of headlining who broke through to the top ranks of all tours for the first time, include Arcade Fire, Florida Georgia Line, and One Republic.

Award finalists for Top Package, which recognizes the top-grossing tour with three or more artists on the bill, include Katy Perry’s Prismatic tour featuring variously Capital Cities, Kasey Musgraves, Tegan & Sarah, Becky G and Ferras; Jason Aldean featuring Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr; and Luke Bryan featuring Lee Brice and Cole Swindell.

Top Festival finalists include Lollapalooza, Chicago, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, TX.

The Touring Awards categories also include Top Promoter, Top Independent Promoter (US), and Top Independent Promoter (International), Top Comedy Tour, Top Arena, Top Venue (under 10,000 seats) and Top Venue (under 5,000 seats), Top Agency ,and Top Manager.

The annual Billboard Touring Conference & Awards, in its 11th year, takes place at The Roosevelt Hotel, November 19 and 20.  More about the 2014 Billboard Touring Conference & Awards, including special awards and entertainment, will be announced closer to event date.
