Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder expressed condolences and solidarity towards Jack White and his band Thursday night over the sudden death of keyboardist Isaiah "Ikey" Owens earlier this week.

During a concert at Joe Louis Arena in White's home town of Detroit, Vedder called White "a friend of the whole group, a great player, a great writer and visionary" before mentioning Owens' death from a heart attack two days prior while on tour in Mexico. "We send our heart out to (White) and his band...The only thing we can do is try to take energy here (at the concert) so we can remember (Owens) fondly," Vedder told the crowd before dedicating the song "Light Years" to Owens.

Vedder had attended a Seattle Mariners baseball game with White (and Paul Simon) during August.

Owens, 35, -- a California native who had moved to Nashville -- had been playing with White since 2012. He also played with the Mars Volta and Long Beach Dub Allstars. White canceled his two remaining shows in Mexico but is still scheduled to start a short European tour on Nov. 7 in Istanbul.
