Usher made a surprise appearance during the encore of Afghan Whigs' show at Brooklyn's Music Hall of Williamsburg Sunday night. This may seem like an unusual collaboration between a veteran indie rock band and a crossover R&B superstar, but the two acts have actually performed together before at the 2013 Fader FORT. Watch an Instagram video of their recent performance here.

Cross-genre collaborations are becoming increasingly common. In 2013, the Yours Truly and Adidas "Songs From Scratch" series brought together an independent producer Shlohmo and the R&B singer Jeremih for "Bo Peep (Do Me Right);" the two artists ended up putting out an entire EP together. The same series also connected Tinashe with Jacques Green.

Usher certainly has time to make surprise appearances in Williamsburg these days. He recently told Billboard he's pushing back the release of his next album, The UR Experience.
