Luke Bryan's Tour Has Grossed $55.5 Million (And Counting)

Luke Bryan takes his That's My Kind of Night tour to No. 1 on this week’s tally of Hot Tours with box office stats reported from the bulk of his 2014 trek through North American cities.

Since the tour's January kick-off, Bryan's outing has been attended by 1.1 million fans, grossing more than $55.5 million at 63 concerts (through Sept. 20). The tour continues through the end of October.

On the road in support of his 2013 album Crash My Party, the country star launched his tour in mid-January with a string of arena dates booked during the winter months, wrapping on March 8 in Bossier City, La. A second leg began in Vancouver on May 3 with arena performances in five Canadian cities, and after the Memorial Day weekend, Bryan began his summer schedule at outdoor venues in U.S. markets.

With Lee Brice and Cole Swindell onboard as support acts, Bryan’s tour stopped primarily at amphitheaters, but four NFL stadiums were also added to the mix.

Bryan's first stadium concert came on June 21 at Heinz Field, the home venue of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The sold ticket count at the venue totaled 52,621. Later in the summer he played four more stadiums including the top-grossing venue, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., with $4.3 million in sales from 56,048 sold seats on Aug. 10.  The Philadelphia Eagles' home stadium, Lincoln Financial Field, hosted Bryan on Aug. 15 with a crowd of 48,576 in attendance, and the final stadium date came on Aug. 31 at Chicago's Soldier Field. Dierks Bentley joined the tour as special guest, along with Brice and Swindell, for all of the stadium shows except the Philly concert that had Brantley Gilbert on the bill instead. 

Among the tour's amphitheater dates, the Indianapolis market produced the largest crowds with a total of 49,428 fans in attendance at Klipsch Music Center for shows on Aug. 29 and 30. The highest-grossing shed was Jiffy Lube Live in the Washington, D.C., market with $1.6 million in revenue from performances on May 30 and 31.

At the beginning of October, Bryan took a break from the amphitheater trek to kick off his annual Farm tour that benefits local college students. Set in smaller cities in the Southeastern U.S., the concerts raise money for scholarships for local teens from farming families. Outdoor performances on farms and other rural concert sites in eight markets are on tap through Oct. 11. The shed dates will resume on Oct. 16 with a final leg through western U.S. cities, wrapping on Oct. 25 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Bruno Mars lands in the second slot on the tally of Hot Tours with $34.7 million in ticket sales from the 2014 North American leg of his Moonshine Jungle tour. Both arena and amphitheater dates are included in this week’s reported shows that span a four-month period from April through August. The top-grossing U.S. venue was Neal S. Blaisdell Center in the singer’s home state of Hawaii.

The Honolulu arena logged ticket sales topping $2 million from sold out shows on April 18, 19 and 21 with 21,877 fans in attendance. The summer trek also included one stadium date, a sellout on July 12 in Hershey, Pa. with 27,351 in attendance at Hersheypark Stadium.  The top amphitheater gross came from the Chicago market, a $1.6 million take from 28,304 sold tickets at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre in the Tinley Park suburb.  Concert promotion giants Live Nation and AEG Live both reported Moonshine Jungle performances this week.  Live Nation promoted 19 of the Bruno Mars concerts, and AEG had 11. 

Miranda Lambert follows with the No. 3 ranking based on $9.4 million in revenue reported to Billboard from her Platinum tour that played amphitheaters in U.S. cities during the summer. With Justin Moore and Thomas Rhett opening the show during most of the jaunt, the Academy of Country Music’s five-time Female Vocalist of the Year winner kicked off the tour in July in support of her fifth studio album Platinum, released in June. She closed out the first leg of the tour in Honolulu, Hawaii with a sold out arena performance on Sept. 20. She will hit the road again in early January for the tour’s second trek in North American cities, currently booked through late March.
