Is Simon Cowell’s ‘X Factor’ U.K. Protege Ella Henderson the Next Adele?
From: Tetney, England
First step: Henderson finished sixth on the U.K. X Factor in 2012. With a smoky, soulful voice, she was often described as a budding Adele.
Reboot: After The X Factor, she signed with Simon Cowell's Syco Music and finished her debut, Chapter One, due Oct. 13. "[Cowell] never rushed me," she says, "and is always reminding me to enjoy this ride because he has seen so many artists forget to."
Influences:One of the first songs Henderson remembers hearing is Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child." "It just captured me," she says. "She was the first female voice I fell in love with."
Big win: Henderson's Ryan Tedder-helmed "Ghost" hit No. 1 in the United Kingdom.
Up next: Henderson's folllow-up is "Glow," co-written by Camille Purcell and Steve Mac (Shakira, One Direction). She dreams about an audience singing it back to her. "I don't want to jinx anything," she says, "but yes, I think about that 100 times a day."
