"American Idol" has the potential to be relevant for years to come, according to a Billboard.com poll. Of 8,414 voters, 63% believe that the Fox singing competition can remain popular for three or more seasons.

"The search for a superstar" can last another three to five seasons, says 31% of the total voting pool, while 14% say the prognosis is even lengthier, at six to 10 years. Another 18% predict it can sustain the interest of pop music fans indefinitely.

Even with that vote of confidence, the highest percentage of votes in a single category predicts an earlier demise for the show, as 37% say "Idol" has just one or two more seasons left.

Last month, the 19 Entertainment-produced series crowned its fourth champion in Carrie Underwood, whose debut Arista single, "Inside Your Heaven" debuted on top of Billboard's Hot 100. Auditions for the show's fifth season will get underway later this summer.
