Chance the Rapper Breaks the Mold with ‘Everyday Wonderful: Arthur’
It is not every day that an artist kicks off a mass discussion on Twitter about a theme song from a '90s children sitcom, but Chance The Rapper managed to do so on July 30 with the release of his track “Everyday Wonderful: Arthur” that has resided on the Billboard Twitter Trending 140 chart ever since its release on July 30 (via Soundcloud).
The track is a cover of “Believe in Yourself,” the theme song from the PBS TV show Arthur. Based on the Arthur book series by Marc Brown, the show tells the story of an anthropomorphic aardvark named Arthur Read. The original song was written by Judy Henderson and Jerry De Villiers Jr. and recorded by Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers (Cedella Marley, Sharon Marley and Stephen Marley).
Chance The Rapper’s cover of the song debuted on the chart July 31 and peaked at No. 1 the following day. After eight days, the track has already gained the attention of over 1 million people on Soundcloud. The song -- which he included in his recent Lollapalooza set list -- features The Social Experiment with additional vocals from Wyclef Jean, Francis & The Lights, Jesse Ware, Elle Varner and others.
On Aug. 7, the song re-appeared at No. 1 on the Trending chart after a post by Chance The Rapper announcing the song had almost hit over 1 million views on Soundcloud.
