Hear Mansions on the Moon Premiere Synthpop Banger 'Somewhere Else Tonight'

Mansions on the Moon

If you like the synth-heavy, festival-ready sounds of acts like Empire of the Sun, St. Lucia, and Foster the People, we’ve got a new jam for you.

Introducing Mansions on the Moon, a California-based four-piece with an impressive resumé of collaborations, who are gearing up to release their debut album this October. For now, Billboard presents the premiere of their uplifting new single “Somewhere Else Tonight.”

“The chorus was inspired by our move from East to West Coast,” says vocalist/guitarist Ted Wendler, referencing the refrain of, “Wanna go somewhere else tonight.” “After we wrote the verses, the lyrics became a metaphor, not only for getting out of one's comfort zone but also for returning to a childlike, imaginative perspective towards mundane everyday life,” Wendler says.

Wendler and the band’s three other members -- keyboardist Ben Hazlegrove, drummer Lane Shaw, and low end specialist Baby Jeff" Maccora -- came from all around -- California, Virginia, Tennessee, and Iowa, but settled on L.A. as the launching pad for their new project. So far, they’ve collaborated with N.E.R.D., produced for Mac Miller, toured with Wiz Khalifa, and have been produced by Diplo. With all that under their belts, they’re hoping to make some noise with their self-titled debut album, which drops Oct. 22.
