Kathleen Hanna Pitches Album Idea to Miley Cyrus
While the Internet continues to debate whether Miley Cyrus' aggressively sexual Bangerz Tour is empowering or exploitative to women, the pop star can rest easy knowing that feminist and punk icon Kathleen Hanna is on her side.
In fact, Hanna has an idea for an album, and she wants Miley Cyrus to see it through. No, seriously.
Hey @MileyCyrus so sweet you posted pics of me...have an idea for an album that only you are daring enough to make .— Kathleen Hanna (@kathleenhanna) August 4, 2014
High praise! And honestly, even though we have no idea what this could possibly mean, we're 100 percent on board.
Miley posted a few vintage Bikini Kill pics over the weekend, including one depicting a defiant Hanna with the word "slut" written across her belly and the caption, "Coolest ever." The love is clearly mutual.
Although it might pain some Gen X purists, the Bikini Kill/Le Tigre/The Julie Ruin singer has been publicly supportive of today's top 40 female pop stars before.
Just last year, Hanna explained why she loves Taylor Swift: "She's not catering to a male audience and is writing music for other girls. I don't care if she calls herself a feminist or not. There is something that she's doing that feels feminist to me in that she really seems to have a lot of control over what her career is doing."
