Even though that Jack White and Jay Z collaboration never saw the light, the rock and roll heavy-hitter's clearly not holding a grudge. Mr. Third Man Records launched his latest run of North American tour dates Saturday night at Louisville's Forecastle Festival and, via Consequence of Sound, among his setlist was a medley that opened his encore segueing from The White Stripes' "Icky Thump" to Jay's 2003 hit "99 Problems."
Given White's manic way of performing, shouting out the rap lyrics was no problem to set to a heavy blues groove. Of course the original already does a fair share of genre-mashing itself, lending itself heavily to a rock infleunce.
Maybe Jay will pay it back now with a Jack White cover at a date of his and Beyonce's On the Run tour.
