Billboard Bits: Hill/Legend, Howard Stern, STS9

News on Hill/Legend, Howard Stern, STS9

HillLauryn Hill makes her first recorded appearance since her 2002 album "MTV Unplugged 2.0" on a remix of John Legend's "So High." The track was released to U.S. radio outlets last weekend and has begun picking airplay in New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.

"The first time I ever appeared on a major album was when I played piano on 'Everything Is Everything' from 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,'" says Legend. "I have been wanting to work with her again ever since."

Legend winds down a North American tour with shows tomorrow (Aug. 25) in Portland, Ore., and Friday in Seattle. He will then play four dates in the United Kingdom and join the Black Eyed Peas in Australia for five gigs in Australia and New Zealand.

SternSirius Satellite Radio will launch one of its Howard Stern channels in September, even though the syndicated morning man is contractually forbidden from appearing on-air at Sirius until January 2006.

On his show this morning (Aug. 24), Stern said he, Sirius president of entertainment & sports Scott Greenstein, executive VP of programming Jay Clark and other Sirius honchos have been huddling over content plans for the channel, one of two that Stern will produce for the satcaster. At deadline, it is unknown what non-Stern programming will populate the channels.

Stern also confirmed that his Sirius start date is Jan. 9, allowing for some downtime after he completes his 20-year Infinity tenure in December. Should Infinity spring him before then, Stern said he would start at Sirius the day after news broke of his premature departure.

The original "ARTiFact" reached No. 12 on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart. Look for the group on tour through the end of the year in North America, with two shows in Japan wedged in on Oct. 1 and 3. STS9 will close out 2005 with a Dec. 29-31 stand at Atlanta's Tabernacle.
