Sinéad O'Connor Signs With Nettwerk, New Album Coming
Sinéad O'Connor has signed a worldwide recording deal with Nettwerk Music Group ahead of the release later this year of her new studio set, “The Vishnu Room.”
The Irish singer’s upcoming album, her tenth, is “indicative of where Sinéad is in life,” according to a statement issued by Nettwerk. The music company describes the recording as “passionate and direct, yet with an overarching fragility; her voice is a weapon, as powerful as it is tender.” “The Vishnu Room” will get an Aug. 12 release date.
“Having published Sinéad as a songwriter for the last five years, it’s great to now broaden that relationship to the Nettwerk label too,” comments Blair McDonald, managing director of Nettwerk Music Group U.K. “The new recordings are incredible and we’re all very excited to be working on this worldwide release for later this year.”
O’Connor’s career has been at times glorious (1990’s “Nothing Compares 2U”), confusing (declaring she would discard her celebrity from July 2003), and often controversial (tearing up a picture of Pope John Paul II on “SNL” back in 1992). Throughout her 30 years in and out of the limelight, she’s always had a knack for grabbing a headline. In recent years, the publicity has been targeted at her emotional problems, her love life, and a Twitter exchange with Miley Cyrus that got ugly.
O'Connor premiered new material on Irish TV late last year, including the track "How Nice A Woman Can Be."
