For over five decades, girl groups have been responsible for some of the most enduring singles in modern pop music. From "Wannabe" to "Weak," from the heyday of Motown to the explosion of 80's pop-rock to the R&B collectives of the 2000's and everything in between, girl groups have evolved and triumphed on top 40 radio and beyond, and the Billboard Hot 100 chart wouldn't look quite the same without them.

Note: This ranking is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart through the tally dated April 2, 2016. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. To ensure equitable representation of the biggest hits from each era, certain time frames were weighted to account for the difference between turnover rates from those years.
