The general ticket onsale starts this Thursday (April 17).
The Auckland show will mark the first time Monáe -- recipient of Billboard’s 2013 Rising Star Award -- has performed in New Zealand, Kimbra’s homeland. Monae last visited these parts when she played a string of dates in Australia back in 2012.
Live Nation offered some insight into how the pair dreamed-up with the touring concept. The inspiration came during a late-night catch-up last July during the 2013 Montreux Jazz Festival. Monáe and Kimbra apparently bonded “over a shared love of Prince, and as the night wore on the collective began jamming” in a Swiss bar, according to a statement issued by the giant concert promoter.
Kimbra Vows Less 'Trickery' on Next Album
Kimbra, who dueted on Gotye’s 2012 global smash “Somebody That I Used To Know” and is a two-time winner of the ARIA female artist of the year award, is expected to release her sophomore album later this year. Her 2012 debut “Vows” opened at No. 14 on The Billboard 200.
Monáe’s second studio set “The Electric Lady” reached No. 5 on The Billboard 200 following its release in 2013.
