Drake has announced he's hosting this year's ESPY Awards, ESPN's annual sports award show.

The "Hold On, We're Going Home" artist said on Twitter that he's "honored" to host the event, which is taking place July 16 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles and will of course air on ESPN.

In a statement from the network, Drake called the gig an "incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions -- sports and performing."

"Drake is an unbelievably talented entertainer who truly has a passion for sports. We are thrilled to have him to host this year's show," said Connor Schell, a vp at ESPN who oversees the ESPYs.

The Toronto native played hockey as a youth and in 2013 accepted the position of "global ambassador" for his hometown NBA team, the Toronto Raptors.

In January, Drake showed off his comedy skills when he hosted "Saturday Night Live." In the cold opening for the episode, he played someone you likely won't see at the ESPYs: embattled baseball star Alex Rodriguez, in a "Piers Morgan Live" (RIP) sketch. Watch:
