Deadmau5 to Replace Avicii at Ultra Music Festival
The producer will close out Saturday night at the dance fest due to Avicii's gall bladder issues.
deadmau5 will close out the main stage at Ultra Music Festival on Saturday night (Mar. 29) and will fill in for Avicii, who was hospitalized on Thursday night.
On Friday afternoon, the dance festival announced that Avicii will not be taking the Ultra stage this year due to "health issues." The Swedish DJ, born Tim Bergling, was rushed to a Miami hospital on Thursday after experiencing severe abdominal pain, nausea and fever, according to a statement released by a representative. He was scheduled to perform last night at the SLS South Beach in Miami and was forced to cancel the set.
"[Avicii] has been diagnosed as having a blocked gall bladder and is currently being evaluated for a potential surgery to remove his gall bladder," reads the statement. "He has had to cancel all his commitments for the week, including a highly anticipated performance last night at the Ushuaia Pop Up at the Avicii Hotel at SLS and his headline performance tomorrow at the ULTRA Music Festival."
deadmau5 will now close out a main stage lineup at Ultra that includes Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, Martin Garrix and Nicky Romero on Saturday. The Canadian producer, who is being billed with a "special guest," performed at last year's Ultra Music Festival.
"well… looks like my stay here in miami just got extended for a couple more days ;)," deadmau5 posted to Twitter on Friday afternoon. "well, stranger shit has happened... thats for sure. but, glad i could help a friend out and be with my fans tomorrow night :)"
