At best, New Year's Eve is not only a time to celebrate another year passing, but also a time to see great music. New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas will be hosting the biggest names in pop and rock, and there are a slew of acts taking to stages around America to welcome in 2006.

Giant Village 6 in L.A. has roped in more than a dozen acts, from Death Cab For Cutie to the Black Eyed Peas to the Crystal Method, to play on five stages set over six city blocks. John Legend and Brian Setzer with be firing up the House of Blues and Joan Jett, the Violent Femmes and other rock acts will be circulating the Orange County Fairgrounds.

On the other coast, the world's most famous celebration in New York's Times Square will see the ball drop, while artists will be throwing down all around town. The Black Crowes will headline Madison Square Garden with former Phisherman Trey Anastasio and the North Mississippi Allstars, while punk legend Patti Smith will be taking the stage at Bowery Ballroom and They Might Be Giants rock the stage at North Six in Brooklyn.

Kanye West and Fantasia will celebrate in Las Vegas, Motley Crue in Detroit, Soul Asylum in Chicago and Tracy Lawrence in Dallas.

Planning to stay in? Mariah Carey, Sugarland, the Bangles and 3 Doors Down will entertain the Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest co-hosted "New Year's Rockin' Eve" on ABC. Regis Philbin will have Nick Cannon and Tyler Hilton on hand in the Big Apple for Fox and Carson Daly and the NBC crew will play host to a performance by Mary J. Blige. MTV will sing in the New Year with Fall Out Boy and Shakira.

On the radio, National Public Radio (NPR) is hosting a special New Year's celebration of jazz, live from New Orleans. It is the public broadcaster's 26th "Toast the Nation" broadcast, but is the first live national music broadcast from New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina hit the city in August. The show begins at Tipitina’s Uptown in the Big Easy with Galactic and the Hot 8 Brass Band and will bounce the broadcast around the country with performances from artists like Dizzy Gillespie in Washington D.C. and the Brubeck Brothers Quartet in Sanibel Island, Fla.

Sirius Satellite Radio will host a live broadcast of Patti Smith's performance in New York. Additionally, Sirius will feature an exclusive performance by Jimmy Buffett on its Radio Margarittaville channel.
