Sir Mick Jagger and L'Wren Scott arrive at the Harper's Bazaar Women of the Year awards at Claridge's Hotel on November 5, 2013 in London, England.

Mick Jagger responded to the death of his girlfriend, fashion designer L'Wren Scott, in a statement today on his official Facebook page.

"I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way," Jagger mourned, addressing Scott's death from an apparent suicide in her Manhattan apartment yesterday. "We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves," he continued, beneath a black and white photo of Scott he posted.

L'Wren Scott, Mick Jagger's Girlfriend & Fashion Designer, Found Dead of Apparent Suicide

Jagger and Scott had dated since 2001. The model/designer designed costumes for the Stones' 50th anniversary tour in 2013. A spokesperson for Jagger told Billboard in a statement yesterday (March 17) that he is "completely shocked and devastated by the news."

Scott was 49 years old. No suicide note was left and no foul play is expected.

The Rolling Stones are currently on tour in Australia, though earlier today they announced plans to postpone tomorrow's concert in Perth. A representative said the band had "gathered together in Perth where they’re dealing with the situation,” and that rumors of Jagger leaving for the United States are -- “to their knowledge” -- not entirely incorrect. Their next scheduled gig is March 22 in Adelaide.

I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way.

We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves.

She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me.

I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received.

I will never forget her,

Mick
