Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden Announce Tour

iTunes Festival at SXSW

Soundgarden performs at the iTunes Festival at SXSW in Austin, TX on March 13, 2014

Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden have announced a co-headlining tour for this summer that will take the '90s-era rock titans across North America. The 23-date trek will visit sheds in most major markets beginning July 19 in Las Vegas. While an official announcement won't be made until Monday, the bands went ahead and posted the itineray on their websites over the weekend. Abrasively experimental hip-hop group Death Grips will open most dates.

March 8 marked 20 years since the release of Soundgarden's "Superunknown" and NIN's "The Downward Spiral," two of the most enduring albums of that decade. Fueled by radio staples like "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Sun," Soundgarden bested its then-rivals to the top of the Billboard 200 a week later.

The Chris Cornell-fronted group will release a 5-CD deluxe edition of "Superunknown" on June 3 and they recently performed the album in full at the iTunes Festival at South By Southwest in Austin.

"If you can single out any of our albums as being, like, the most iconic one, it’s obviously this one," Cornell told Billboard in Austin. "I think it’s an accomplishment, and I’m proud we did it.  So it’s kind of a cool thing to do and concentrate on."
