The guitarist was admitted after experiencing severe back pain

Queen guitarist Brian May is undergoing tests that could reveal whether or not he has cancer.

In a post on the musician's website, it was revealed that May is taking part in a myriad of different tests, including "blood tests, ultrasounds and various types of scans" after experiencing severe back pain.

"I've seen so many of my dear friends fighting it… and my Dad lost his battle at age 66, exactly the age I am now," May wrote of the possibility of having cancer. "So over the last few days I've been in various states of unrest."

May later said that the tests revealed bone abnormalities, but actual cancer has not yet been found.

An update on Monday (Dec. 30) found the rocker thanking fans for their support and saying that "my specialist has given me permission to be optimistic."

According to The Guardian, if cancer is found, May's doctors believe it should be treatable.
