Taylor Swift Surprises L.A. With Tegan and Sara: Watch 'Closer' Performance
Taylor Swift is on top of the world and her Los Angeles stop this week has proven that the sold-out "Red Tour" continues to thrill, entertain and surprise.
Fans got a major lift on Tuesday (Aug. 20) when Swift introduced indie pop duo Tegan and Sara at the Staples Center. The trio performed "Closer," which is currently on the Pop Songs chart and has already been No. 1 on Dance/Club Play Songs.
Swift introduced the Canadian act who joined the 23-year-old on a circular portion of a platform in the middle of thousands of fans who this week helped Swift tie with 11 sold-out shows at the Staples Center. (Mexican rock band Maná also holds that distinction).
Swift took the night to celebrate her arena achievement by thanking her fans who cheered her on. "We love you, T-Swizzle," a group of teens screamed as their idol looked into the crowd, smiling and glowing with her bright red lipstick.
But it was Swift's performance with Tegan and Sara that really made Tuesday night's show sparkle as fans sang along, danced and reached for their cell phones to record the "Closer" performance that struck a chord with them.
"I know Taylor brings artists out to perform with her, but seeing her with Tegan and Sara was awesome," says Josey Pickering, 30, from Anaheim, Calif. "I've been a Taylor fan for almost six years and this is my first time seeing her. I'm so overwhelmed. Taylor saved my life … she has helped me push the negativity aside."
Swift is in Los Angeles as part of a four-night engagement, which concludes on Saturday (Aug. 24). The tour then continues to Sacramento, Calif., Portland, Ore. and Tacoma, Wash., among many other upcoming stops.
