The Arcade Fire has unveiled "Intervention," the first track from its hotly anticipated new album, "Neon Bible," via a pre-recorded telephone message accessible by calling 866-636-6242, extension 7777. "Neon Bible" is due in March or April via Merge.

The cut, which has been a part of the Arcade Fire's live shows in recent months, begins with an enveloping swell of pipe organ, while Win Butler sings atop a mournful acoustic guitar riff about debts that can never be paid and the death of friendship and love.

The full band kicks in for the second verse, as Butler's voice builds in intensity: "Working for the church while my family dies / your little baby sister's going to lose her mind / Every spark of friendship and love will die without a hope."

"Intervention" has already been played on BBC Radio this morning by Zane Lowe as part of his "The Hottest Record in the World Today" segment.

The Arcade Fire will make its first live appearances of 2007 via a Jan. 29-31 run at London's St. John's Church and a Feb. 1-2 engagement at the city's Porchester Hall. Also on tap is a Feb. 6-10 booking at the Ukranian National Federation in the group's Montreal homebase.
