'Hunger Games,' Shins and Odd Future Are Top 10 Bound
The just-released "The Hunger Games" soundtrack seems to be on a steady course for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry prognosticators suggest that the album will sell at least 175,000 copies by week's end on Sunday, March 25.
Adele's "21" will likely be the runner-up on the tally for a third straight week, while the Shins' new "Port of Morrow" will be the second-highest debut.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, March 28.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), "The Hunger Games" is at No. 1 while Adele is hanging out in the No. 2 slot. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants.
The Shins' last release, 2007's "Wincing the Night Away," debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 2 with 118,000 in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The band's new album isn't going to sell quite as much, as it's on track to move around 70,000 to 80,000. On the Building Chart, it rests at No. 4.
As for the rest of the top 10 on the Building chart, One Direction's "Up All Night" is No. 3, Bruce Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball" is No. 5 and Odd Future's new "The OF Tape, Vol. 2" is No. 6. The "Now 41" compilation is No. 7, Melanie Fiona's new "The MF Life" is No. 8 and fun.'s "Some Nights" is No. 9. Rounding out the top 10 of the Building Chart is Gotye's "Making Mirrors."
