Heavy metal festival Sonisphere has cancelled it's July 6-8 fest in Stevenage, U.K., in what the fest's website refers to as a "very challenging year."

A statement provided on the Sonisphere website begins, "It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012."

Kiss, Queen (with Adam Lambert) and Faith No More were set to headline, along with Evanescence, Marilyn Manson, Mastodon, Flogging Molly and a full line-up of rock and metal artists.

"Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated," the statement continued. "Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that we would be unable to run the festival to a standard that both the artists and that Sonisphere's audience would rightly expect."

The U.K. fest, held at the Knebworth estate, is just one leg of a multi-country European tour making stops in Poland, Spain, Switzerland and more. These fests, featuring headliner Metallica, are still happening as scheduled.

Ticket holders for the U.K. Sonisphere will receive full refunds direct from their ticket agents.
