Album Chart Preview: Zac Brown Band, Frank Ocean & Hank Williams Jr. Aiming High
Next week's Billboard 200 albums chart should welcome a new No. 1 from Zac Brown Band, while Frank Ocean will rock the boat with his debut studio set. Further, country veteran Hank Williams Jr. is aiming for a big bow with his new release, "Old School New Rules."
The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, July 18.
Zac Brown Band's "Uncaged," the group's third major-label studio album, may sell around 220,000, according to industry prognosticators. That would easily score the best sales week ever for the act, which netted its previous high with the No. 1 bow of 2010's "You Get What You Give" (153,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan).
Frank Ocean's "Channel Orange" should debut at No. 2 with perhaps 130,000 -- a bit more than forecasted on Wednesday (July 11). The set was initially exclusively released via the iTunes Store on July 10 -- a week before its advertised street date of July 17. Since it dropped digitally, physical retailers have been instructed by Ocean's label to start selling the CD version as soon as it arrives in stores. In turn, many brick-and-mortar retailers will have the album on its shelves over the weekend.
Hank Williams Jr.'s new studio set, "Old School New Rules," is off to a good start and will likely bow in the top 20 next week. It could also debut in the top five on the Country Albums tally. The singer's set includes guest turns from Brad Paisley, Merle Haggard and Trace Adkins.
On Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart (below), Zac Brown Band and Ocean are at Nos. 1 and 2 while this past week's Billboard 200 leader, Chris Brown's "Fortune," is No. 3. The Building tally is a precursor to the final Billboard 200 ranking -- reflecting the first four days (Monday through Thursday) of SoundScan's tracking week as reported by six major merchants.
Justin Bieber's former No. 1, "Believe," is No. 4 while Maroon 5's "Overexposed" sits at No. 5. Up next are Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" (No. 6), Linkin Park's "Living Things" (No. 7) and One Direction's "Up All Night" (No. 8). Adele's "21" and Kenny Chesney's "Welcome to the Fishbowl" round out the top 10 at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.
