The Cars Reveal First Video, Release Date for 'Move Like This'
As the Cars gear up for their first new album in 24 years, titled "Move Like This," the new wave group is giving fans an initial taste of the release with the music video for "Blue Tip."
Additionally, a May 10 release date for the album, the Cars' first since 1987's "Door to Door," has been announced. Initial news of the group's reformation was confirmed to Billboard.com by sources in late October.
Video: The Cars, "Blue Tip"
The trippy "Blue Tip" video, released Feb. 17, finds the Cars being immortalized in spray paint via NYC street artist Joe Iurato. While the Cars may be "your parents' new wave band," "Blue Tip" proves that these influential synth-rockers are still hip enough to keep up with today's electro-pop acts (most of which the Cars inspired).
Frontman Ric Ocasek, who maintained currency as a successful producer for bands including Weezer, No Doubt and Guided By Voices, possesses the same vocal strength and sense of catchiness as he did on Cars hits like "My Best Friend's Girl."
Ocasek was previously resistant to the idea of a Cars reunion, going so far as to tell a journalist in 1997 that it would never happen. He declined an offer in 2005 to join original bandmates Elliot Easton (guitar) and Greg Hawkes (keyboard) in a group called the New Cars.
