Justin Timberlake Sings, Goofs Around in FreeSol's 'Role Model' Video
Justin Timberlake! Singing! In a new music video! Granted, it's a video for FreeSol's "Role Model," but the rap-rock outfit signed to JT's Tennman Records still gives the superstar a chance to shine -- in an Auto-Tuned voice, no less -- in the black-and-white clip, which was released on Thursday (Oct. 20).
"You gotta pay attention to me like a symptom/This shit got me amped up! Ritalin," Timberlake declares at the start of the track, which is featured on FreeSol's debut disc, "No Rules." The video, which Timberlake co-directed Joseph Toman and Aaron Platt, features the singer, the members of FreeSol and some sketchy characters playing with fireworks, throwing flags, riding around in shopping carts and other activities that justify the hook, "I'm not a role model."
Last month, Timberlake ended a long performing hiatus by playing a pair of New York shows with FreeSol -- at the Sept. 1 show, Timberlake played keyboard for the group before taking center stage halfway through the set to play hits like "Cry Me a River" and "Like I Love You." The appearance helped promote "No Rules," which is slated for a 2012 release after the Memphis-based FreeSol signed to Tennman Records in 2006.
"Who wouldn't want to be where we are right now? What act trying to get in the game wouldn't want Justin opening up a show in front of a thousand people?" Free, the group's frontman, told Billboard.com. "Would it become a shadow that we would want to get out of eventually? Ask us in a few years. Right now, we're flattered."
