Billboard Latin Music Awards Score Ratings Win

Averaging more than 2.4 million viewers, Telemundo experienced its highest-rated telecast in its 14-year history of broadcasting the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which aired live from Miami on Thursday (April 26), the network announced.

Hosted by TV personalities Aylin Mujica and Daniel Sarcos and featuring top musical acts such as Akon, Marc Anthony, Jenni Rivera, Don Omar, Mana, Michel Telo, Paulina Rubio, Pitbull and Prince Royce, among others, the record-breaking telecast reached a cumulative audience of more than 5.6 million total viewers and averaged 1,287,000 adults 18-49, according to Nielsen.

In addition to the main awards telecast, the red carpet pre-show delivered its best ratings ever with 1,489,000 total viewers, up +16% from the prior year. In addition, the red carpet special averaged 658,000 adults 18-49, up +4% versus 2011. The red carpet pre-show and the awards telecast combined reached a cumulative audience of 6 million total viewers.

Digitally and across social media, the 2012 Billboard Latin Music Awards were also major hit, topping "American Idol" for the night with over 496,000 social activities, according to Top Daily TrendrrTV Broadcast Chart. Telemundo ranked as the No. 2 broadcast network with its red carpet show as well. On Twitter, the Latin Music Awards became a "trending topic" within minutes of the show's airing.

In New York and Miami, Telemundo was No.1 in its time period regardless of language in New York and Miami, among adults 18-49 and adults 18-34. The red carpet pre-show was also No. 1 in the time period across all stations regardless of language in New York among adults 18-49, and in Miami among adults 18-49 as well as among total viewers.

This year's awards were dominated by young and established artists, with Don Omar and Prince Royce tied as the biggest winners, earning eight honors apiece at the April 26 telecast, live from the BankUnited Center in Miami. The event featured performances by Omar and Royce, as well as Pitbull, Juanes and Brazilian artist Michel Teló, the lattermost singing his No. 1 hit "Ai Se Eu Te Pego" on U.S. TV for the first time.
