Lady Gaga To Perform at MTV Video Music Awards

Lady Gaga will perform her lead "ARTPOP" single live at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, it was announced on Thursday (July 25). The ceremony will take place on Aug. 25 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

Gaga's VMAs performance will mark the live debut of her highly anticipated new single, set to be released on Aug. 19, as well as her first performance since undergoing hip surgery earlier this year. The pop superstar is thus far the only confirmed performer at this year's ceremony, with more artists to be announced at a later date.

"ARTPOP," Gaga's full-length follow-up to 2011's "Born This Way," will be released on Nov. 11, and will be accompanied with an app that she has described as "a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology." Lady Gaga similarly launched her "Born This Way" album by performing the title track for the first time at the 2011 Grammy Awards.

Gaga has a long, colorful history at the MTV Video Music Awards, with performances of "Paparazzi" and "You and I" in 2009 and 2011, respectively. In 2010, her dazzling clip for "Bad Romance" earned the Video of the Year award, and she accepted the trophy while wearing her infamous meat dress.

The nominations for the 2012 VMAs were led by Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who each scored six overall nods. This year's ceremony, the first to be held at the Barclays Center, will feature a re-designed Moonman, courtesy of Brooklyn-based artist KAWS.
