Skillet, 'Rise': Exclusive Album Premiere

Reid Rolls

Skillet's "Rise," the group's first studio album in four years, isn't due until tomorrow (June 25), but you can stream the Christian rockers' long-awaited new album in full exclusively on a day early.

"Rise" isn't just a collection of new songs; this time the band has crafted a narrative that runs through album. "It's a story about your typical American teenager," lead vocalist/bassist John Cooper recently told Billboard. "He's coming into adulthood and he's faced by the horrors that we see every day-floods, bombings, earthquakes, school shootings. He's also faced with his own problems from his family life. It's about his path to salvation, and wanting to be significant in some way. The record has a lot of ups and downs, all leading to this salvation experience."

The new album comes as the follow up to 2009's platinum "Awake." Skillet fans in both the Christian and mainstream rock worlds embraced "Awake," which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and and at No. 1 on the Top Christian Albums chart.

Fans can expect the 12 songs on "Rise," Skillet's ninth studio album, to figure prominently in the band's 2013 tour which spends the summer in the U.S. before heading to Europe in October.
