Black Sabbath Reveals '13' Release Date, Issues New Making-Of Clip: Watch
Long-awaited new album is available for pre-order beginning today.
Black Sabbath will release "13," their first album with Ozzy Osbourne at the helm since 1978's "Never Say Die!," on June 11 through Vertigo/Republic in the U.S. After releasing an in-studio teaser clip -- directed by Osbourne's son Jack, no less -- for the long-awaited album on Feb. 13, the band shared another behind-the-scenes video on Wednesday (Mar. 13), in which producer Rick Rubin discusses the recording of the rock epic.
In the clip, Rubin is shown analyzing each track while lying cross-legged on his bed, and the veteran producer talks about how his lifelong love of Sabbath has driven his vision of a comeback album. "My goal is to make something really great, that I could listen to forever," says Rubin. "That's the whole part of it… the idea that we're making an album that hopefully can sit alongside the best Black Sabbath albums is exciting. We've worn out the old ones!"
Osbourne, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Rage Against The Machine drummer Brad Wilk are all shown hard at work on "13," which was primarily recorded in Los Angeles. The ninth Black Sabbath album with Osbourne was originally announced in January after enduring a multitude of adversity, including Iommi's 2012 diagnosis of early-stage lymphoma and original drummer Bill Ward opting out of the project last May.
"13" is now available for pre-order as a standard CD, deluxe double-CD, 12-inch vinyl and super deluxe box set, the latter of which includes goodies like an exclusive documentary DVD, 13 photographic prints and handwritten album lyrics. Black Sabbath will embark on an overseas tour beginning Apr. 20 in New Zealand.
